SUSTAINABILITY
We are aware of the challenges created by the fashion industry and we as a brand understand the responsibility that is put upon us. We are proud of what we stand for and we make sure that our ethical practices are applied at all levels of our production chain.
Ethical Consumption / Philosophy / Practices
Our collection is designed and produced in Portugal. Every single piece is handmade by our seamstresses working under respectful conditions. We have developed a trustworthy relationship with our manufacturer, ensuring close communication and the respect of our ethical principles.
Materials
ORGANIC COTTON - GOTS CERTIFIED
The cotton we work with is organic and certified with Global Organic Textile Standard, GOTS. Organic cotton means natural, no artificial fertilisers, pesticides, or genetically modified seeds. This way farmers are not exposed to toxic chemicals and are treated fairly. Organic productions do not damage the soil and requires much less water and energy.
VISCOSE
Viscose is a regenerated textile fibre made from natural materials. The fibre is derived from cellulose, it´s main components are plant cell walls, most commonly wood pulp, or bamboo. This product is completely biodegradable.
CUPRO
Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric that is made from recycled cotton. It is made from 100% plant-based material which biodegrade naturally. It’s hypoallergenic, anti-static and extremely durable.
Cupro carries a soft touch with a peachy surface and doesn’t contain any animal by-product.
TENCEL
TENCEL branded lyocell and modal fibers are produced from the sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. TENCEL fibers are biodegradable and compostable. The material has a slight sheen and feels extremely soft to the touch.
Shipping
To align with our ethical philosophy, we put in place a conscious shipping plan. Because the little details matter, our stickers have the following certifications: The FSC or Forest Steward Council certifies that the paper is sourced from a supply chain that is managed responsibly and sustainably.
Our tags are made of recycled paper and our labels from organic cotton.
KC THE BRAND wants to be a part of your daily life, so instead of using wrapping paper to ship your order, we use reusable organic cotton tote bags. This way you can take us with you everywhere and at the same time respect the environment.
As a brand we know there is always space for improvement, and we work continuously on finding new sustainable options.
Eden Reforestation Projects Mission
Eden Reforestation Projects is a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to provide fair wage employment to impoverished villagers as agents of global forest restoration. Eden Reforestation Projects hires the poorest of the poor to grow, plant, and guard to maturity native species forest on a massive scale. Their “Employ to Plant” methodology results in a multiplication of positive socio-economic and environment measures.
With every KC THE BRAND purchase, a tree is planted in Kenya.
Eden Reforestation Projects started working with the local community to replant and protect Kenya’s forest systems in 2019.
In partnership with a local organization, Eden Reforestation Projects is planting afromontane species within the Kijabe Forest. The reforestation efforts in the Northern Coast focuses on planting mangrove and coastal forest species. The international team in Kenya has planted over 1 million trees and is continuing to expand planting efforts.
